Catch Up number two

Hi again...
A few weeks ago I mentioned I attended the Alberta Potters Association Annual Meeting in Red Deer..here are a few pictures from that weekend...

Thanks again to Brian McArthur and Dawn Detarando (http://www.voyagertile.ca/) (remember the post which showed the Big Boots.?..these are the creators :))..for hosting the 'meet and greet' gathering on Friday evening and the meeting, meal and evening on Saturday at their studio/home.

Brian and Dawn produce Public Art, a variety of decorative tiles, and commissioned work such as: this piece which was 'in progress'..it will eventually be a bronze commissioned  by a local person (in honour of his prairie ancestors) and will be hung in a public building in the area. Amazing!

Monsieur Louis Cyr (French Canadian strong man..-look him up) is also one of Brian''s works.

Saturday was a day full of demonstrations by:  Jack Sures: and Cara Driscoll from Regina Saskatchewan, and Rob Froese.  Jack is one of Canada's premier ceramicists and art educators.  His work ranges from small vessels to architectural commissions. He threw large vessels, scored them on the outside and then opened them up which created these wonderfully textured and marked surfaces.  Also threw huge platters/ bowls...

Cara Driscoll makes beautiful fine coiled pts..many resemble the human figure and each has an accompaning story to tell.

Rob Froese - sculptural and utilitarian slab work influenced by his time in Japan...

A full couple of days with interesting, inspiring artists..  Thank you all!  p.s.  The new Visual Arts wing at Red Deer college is also a work of art!...Come teach or take a class :).
